And the future?

Duncan Walker overviews the way forward. “With such a varied body-of-work forming the long history of Fairlie Restorations, it is not surprising that we have many potential clients quietly engaging with us and preparing personal plans for a future project. We have recently been talking with people about possible small boat projects; one is the complete restoration of a 60’ Fife cruising yacht found in Montenegro, which I visited with Paul last September. Secondly the building of a small cruising yacht replica of around 40-50’ (the exact yacht has not yet been decided) – but a very exciting prospect nonetheless… and thirdly a fairly substantial refit on a 1920’s cruising yacht to prepare her for long distance cruising.

Lastly our design office is helping with the recreation of a Thames Sailing Barge, being set up as a charity to work with disadvantaged children, with the ultimate goal of once again carrying cargo under sail in one of these incredible and traditional vessels. At present we are assisting in discussions with the MCA and Germanischer Lloyds endeavouring to get the concept off the ground. At Fairlie we are pleased to be able to offer this kind of assistance to such a hugely worthy cause.”
