News from the Design Office
Throughout 2007 Fairlie made a big push with new designs. At the Monaco Yacht Show in September Paul Spooner unveiled the Fairlie cruising yacht design concept, which at 28m was designed as a long distance, bluewater cruising yacht, aimed at family or short handed cruising. Paul commented that the design has sparked a great deal of interest both from the yachting press (see Boat International – Jan 2008) and also from potential clients and has subsequently led to the development of a 23m version designed for two separate parties.
Whats on the drawing board?
Building a Dream
Fairlie are now becoming increasingly involved with Dream Ship Victory, based in Turkey, with Paul and Tom covering all aspects of naval architecture, engineering system and rig design for the yard’s first two yachts. Working Closely with Formula Yacht Spars on the rig and Bjorn Johansson Design on the Interior, both yachts are progressing well and 2008 looks to be an extremely exciting and busy year for everyone involved in these projects.

Viking yacht project
Paul Spooner reviews this interesting project in Iceland. “Progress continues on the ‘Viking Yacht Project’. Having supplied all structural drawing and rig designs, I visited the yard in August last year where I found the work progressing well and the standard of craftsmanship first class. The rig, with spars by both Formula Spars and Collars, will be shipped out in time for the launch and subsequent sea trials this spring. Keep an eye out for the first sailing pictures in the press later in the year – they should be spectacular!”
