Fife Regatta – forty yachts to attend
Duncan Walker, Fairlie Director comments “Since we first embarked on the restoration programme at Fairlie Restorations, I have had the privilege to see many of ‘our’ yachts make the pilgrimage to Fairlie, North Ayrshire to take part in this private regatta. The regatta starts and finishes at Fairlie with visits to Rhu (Argyll) and Rothesay (Bute). The owners gather to discuss the sailing at a black tie dinner at Kelburn Castle followed by a Burns supper at the Royal and Clyde Yacht Club. The last remaining seagoing paddle steamer ‘P.S. Waverley’ will provide a leisurely evening cruise. Although the Yachts will go their separate ways after this prestigious event, many will continue to other UK regattas including the BCYC in Cowes, Isle of Wight and the Falmouth classic week”.
With less than six months to go to the start of the third Fife Regatta on Friday 20th June, the guest list of forty yachts designed and/or built by William Fife and Son is full, unless, of course, some of the first invitees drop out. For the first time the larger yachts will be in attendance, including the flagship ‘Cambria’, ‘Altair’ which is expected to arrive from the Caribbean and ‘Mariquita’, ‘Tuiga’ and ‘Lady Anne’ who will all be arriving by ship on the South Coast of England. ‘Lucky Girl’, the most recent Fairlie restoration, will be making her first outing at the regatta.
